Invent Fairy Tales
Identify, create and re-tell the classics!
Children identify the matching picture cards for five fairy-tale classics (each story is colour-coded) and learn about the stories from a parent/educator. Then the children can mix up the picture cards and randomly select a given number of character and settings cards to make up a new story of their own!

Quick Instructions:
The parent/educator can then faciliate a learning session to familiarise the children with the stories, either by reading the story adaption provided or their own simplified version, taking into account the children's ages.
The fairy tales are as follows:
Little Red Riding Hood; Hansel and Gretel; Puss in Boots; The Four Musicians of Bremem; Cinderella
Applications for this game could be to:
- Write out your creative story in your book. Highlight the key words taken from the picture cards you selected.
- Verbally create the story together as a group, taking turns and improvising the storyline. An adult/educator could point to the different children to decide who speaks when, and could hold up a card to direct them to talk about that character/object during their turn.
- Create a play in groups based on a random selection of character and settings cards.
- Create frozen images (tableaux/freeze frames) which act out the most important moments in the traditional fairytale stories. Repeat this activity in an improvised manner to help form an invented story.
